Franchise FAQ
Fireside Heating & Air Co. has been keeping homes comfortable since 1984. If you’re considering joining us as a franchise partner, here are the straight answers to the questions we hear most often.
Common Questions
Do I need HVAC experience to open a Fireside franchise?
No. We’ve built our training program for operators who understand business and people, not necessarily refrigerant lines. What matters more is that you share our view: a customer who calls at 2 a.m. with no heat deserves a live person on the line and a technician who shows up when we say we’ll be there. Many of our most successful partners came from management, military service, or other trades and learned the HVAC side through our training. You’ll hire licensed technicians; your job is to build a team that lives the K.E.Y.S. values and delivers the 90-Day Done Right Promise on every call.
What is the total investment range to open a Fireside franchise?
Total initial investment typically falls between $175,000 and $385,000 depending on your market size, whether you start with a leased office or build from scratch, and your initial vehicle and equipment needs. This range covers the franchise fee, training, initial marketing launch, two service vehicles outfitted with tools and inventory, office setup, and working capital to carry you through the first several months. We don’t believe in hiding costs or surprising you later. Every line item is disclosed in our Franchise Disclosure Document, and we’ll walk through it together before you sign anything.
Is financing available?
Yes. Most of our franchisees combine personal investment with SBA-backed loans, equipment financing, or our preferred lender relationships. We don’t guarantee approval, but we do introduce you to financing sources who understand our model and have worked with Fireside partners before. The key is demonstrating sufficient liquidity and net worth to handle the startup phase and the first year of operations. We’ll help you think through realistic cash flow projections based on actual performance data from comparable markets, not optimistic guesses.
What kind of territory and exclusivity do I get?
Each franchisee receives a protected territory defined by population, household count, and drive-time analysis, not arbitrary lines on a map. You won’t compete with another Fireside owner in your area. We size territories carefully: large enough to support growth, small enough that you can build real community recognition. In smaller markets, that might mean a single county. In denser areas, it could be a defined set of zip codes. We don’t award territories we don’t believe can sustain a full operation, and we don’t oversaturate.
How long is the initial training program?
Four weeks: two weeks at our headquarters in Pennsylvania, followed by two weeks of hands-on training in an operating Fireside location. You’ll learn our systems for dispatch, pricing, customer communication, and technician management. You’ll also ride along on actual service calls to see how our journeymen handle the real situations that don’t appear in any manual: the elderly customer who needs the thermostat explained slowly, the furnace failure on Christmas Eve, the conversation about whether to repair or replace when the answer isn’t obvious. After opening, our field support team visits regularly and is available by phone whenever you need them.
What ongoing fees and royalties should I expect?
Our franchise model includes a monthly royalty based on gross revenue and a contribution to our system-wide marketing fund. These are standard in franchising, and we keep ours competitive with the value delivered. The marketing fund supports brand development, digital presence, and campaigns that benefit every Fireside location. Beyond that, you’re responsible for local marketing in your territory, and we’ll show you what has worked in similar markets. No hidden technology fees, no mandatory purchases from us at inflated prices. We negotiate vendor relationships at system-wide rates and pass the savings through.
How long does it take to open after I sign?
Most franchisees open their doors within four to six months of signing. The timeline depends on real estate, vehicle outfitting, hiring your first technicians, and obtaining local licenses and permits. We assign you an opening coordinator who keeps the process moving and flags obstacles before they become delays. The slowest openings usually involve waiting on building permits or searching too long for the perfect location. We’ve learned that a good location now beats a perfect location in nine months, and we’ll tell you when we think you’re overthinking it.
What ongoing support does Fireside provide?
You’ll have dedicated field support, regular business reviews, annual training updates, and access to our entire network of franchise owners. Our call center answers phones for every location, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including holidays. That means your customers always reach a live person, and you don’t have to build overnight dispatch from scratch. We also provide the pricing and flat-rate repair systems that eliminate surprises on the bill, the software platform that tracks every job, and the marketing materials that maintain our steady, plainspoken brand voice. When a new EPA regulation drops or a manufacturer changes a warranty policy, we figure it out and tell everyone.
What does the ideal Fireside franchisee look like?
Someone who understands that we’re not selling the cheapest bid in town. We’re selling the square deal: the price quoted is the price paid, the technician shows up in uniform with a background check and shoe covers, and if something isn’t right, we come back with no paperwork and no arguing. Our best owners have managed people before, respect the trades, and plan to be in their community for decades. They sponsor the county fair and the church roof fund. They remember customer names. They don’t get rattled when a job goes sideways, because they’ve seen enough to know there’s always a right answer if you stay unhurried and keep looking.
What’s my next step if I’m interested?
Call our franchise development line at (866) 561-3358. You’ll speak with a real person, not a voicemail tree or a form submission into the void. We’ll send you our Franchise Disclosure Document, answer whatever questions you have, and if it makes sense for both sides, we’ll schedule a discovery day at headquarters where you can meet Glen, see the operation, and decide whether Fireside fits what you’re trying to build. There’s no pressure and no obligation. We’re looking for partners who want the same thing we do: comfort people can count on, delivered by people who treat every home like their mother’s.
