Communicating York systems - Affinity Series (YP9C, YP9R modulating furnaces; YZE, YZH heat pumps) - require a York-specific or York-certified communicating thermostat. The Affinity line uses a proprietary data bus, not standard R/W/Y/G wiring. We’ve found homeowners in the Cabbage Hill area with these systems who tried a generic smart thermostat and lost modulation, staging, and humidity control. The board simply won’t recognize it.

To identify your system, pull the thermostat from the wall and photograph the wiring label, or check the furnace data plate inside the lower cabinet door. Signs Your York Thermostat Installation Is Failing

• Blank or flickering display. The thermostat’s internal transformer or capacitor is failing, often from Lancaster’s summer humidity cycling through wall cavities. We’ve replaced dozens in older brick homes near downtown where the wall cavity holds moisture.
